Victorian Heavily Carved Oak Library Table Desk
This is magnificent. The hall table is mid to late Victorian, dating to around 1870 - 1880. The desk is made in solid oak with its original polished rexine top. Just look at the quality of the carving on this table. Look at the face mask handles. Look at the foliate carving to the front and sides and the back!! When equal attention is given to the back of a piece you know you are dealing with real quality. The desk stands on thick barley twist columns with carved block feet. The legs are joined by thick barley twist stretchers. The barley twist glows.
The top has a deep gadrooned edge and the rexine top though having marks has a beautiful patina.
This is a really good piece. No signs of damage or worm. This library table could be used as a side table in a principal room or as a large ornate desk. The drawers run well and are made as you would expect with fine dovetails. The oak polishes up beautifully.
The table is 46 inches wide and 27 inches deep and 29 inches high.
