Victorian Carved Oak Partners Desk Edwards & Roberts
A stunning, beautifully carved Elizabethan Revival Victorian oak partners desk attributed to Edwards & Roberts of London. The rectangular top with a foliate carved edge and gilt embossed brown faux leather writing surface above a carved frieze. One side with nine variously sized drawers with Green Man handles and flanked by roaring lions and trailing fruits the opposing side with three drawers above cupboard doors featuring superbly carved rams heads panels, all standing on plinth bases with foliate carving to match the top and carved and panelled sides.
In good solid condition with marks and signs of use consistent with age, mainly to the plinths and the edges of the top where some areas of filler can be seen, the faux leather writing fabric has some light patches in it and fading from use but no tears. With locks to all the drawers and cupboards, and a key for one side (we should be able to get a key cut for the other side if required), the cupboards each have a removable shelf. Would be a wonderful and individual addition to any library or study.
The overall dimensions are approximately
Width - 70 7/8in (180cm)
Depth - 44 3/4in (113.5cm)
Height - 29 1/2in (75cm)
For transportation and moving this desk splits into three sections.

Edwards & Roberts were acclaimed English cabinetmakers founded in London in 1845 and who specialised in marquetry, inlay and ormolu making reproductions of earlier styles like that of the Jacobean Revival and their Thomas Hope ebony & brass inlaid mahogany chair in the collection of the V&A Museum. They were able to produce superb quality English antique furniture using some of the finest quality timbers and became one of the leading cabinet makers during the Victorian period. As well as making and selling their own antique furniture, they also retailed, restored and adapted antique furniture. The company ceased trading in 1899.
