Rare mid Victorian camphorwood campaign chest c.1860. Campaign antique furniture was produced by a variety of makers for the wealthy 19th.c. British military officer class who typically bought their commissions and could afford a well appointed baggage train. Designed for the rigours of travel it is always well made and demountable and this is a fine example of the form. Of very solid construction in pest resistant camphorwood with brass details to the corners and edges to protect it from damage. The handles are flush with the drawer fronts, the legs are removable and it divides into two identically sized pieces. Excellent quality with the original British made locks to each drawer. Original throughout, restored and repolished in our workshops.
