Victorian Burr Walnut & Mahogany Linen Press
This lovely antique linen press dates from around 1860-1870. It has what we believe to be a solid mahogany carcass with superb outer burr walnut veneers and cross-banded sides. The linen press consists of an upper section with two arched mirrored doors which open to reveal two slides over a single drawer with a more modern metal hanging rail above. Please note that there would originally have been four slides (and no hanging rail), but two of the slides are now missing. The bottom section has two doors which open to reveal three graduated drawers. Both the top and bottom sections retain their locks and a working key. The piece is supported on a plinth base. Please note that it splits down into three pieces (cornice, top part, bottom part) for ease of transportation, but the two main part are very heavy.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some cracking to the veneers in places and some chipping to the veneers at the extremeties. The veneers have been repaired in places. There is some heavier scuffing around the door frames. There is an old repair to one of the mirror frames and some black spotting and corrosion to the mirrors.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 214cm high, 131cm wide, 65cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
