Victorian Arts and Crafts standard double bed
This is a very good period standard double bed. The bed is late Victorian / Edwardian, dating to around 1900. It is made in solid mahogany and is in the Arts and Crafts style of the day.
The bed has a slatted head and footboard. I like open beds like this as they are airy and don't crowd you and your space as period beds with solid footboards can.
The bed has a central carving to both headboard and footboard. The carving is very much in the design of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau antique furniture. The head and footboard have shaped top rails.
The bed comes with its original iron side rails and brackets. It also has a box base. This is probably original and is old but is serviceable and you wouldn't see it under a sheet and a double mattress. Alternatively you could dispense with this base and put slats across the iron rails and put your mattress on this. Let me know if you require the base.
The bed splits for moving. It is solid when built and is a very clean stylish design for a period bedroom.
The bed is in good order. One slat looks to be a replacement.
The bed takes a standard double mattress 54 inches wide and 74 inches long. The headboard is 50 inches high and the footboard is 38 inches high.
