Victorian Art Nouveau Walnut Single Wardrobe
This attractive antique wardrobe dates from approx. 1890 and is very much in the art nouveau style. It is constructed from what we believe to be mainly solid walnut. It has a single bevel-edged mirrored door, flanked on either side by panels with art nouveau carving. There is a long drawer beneath with a camphor-wood lining. The door opens to reveal a hanging section with a more modern metal hanging rail. The piece has a decorative top cornice, a shaped lower apron and is supported on castors. The door and drawer retain decorative handles and the wardrobe retains its lock and a (replacement) working key.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. The drawer handles are probably replacements and the hanging rail is a more modern replacement. There is some slight black spotting to the mirror. There is some heavier wear around the edges and some knocks, scratches and indentation in places. There is some slight shrinkage cracking to one side There are three original hooks across the back of the inside of the wardrobe (one is missing), but one is broken. The top rail has some damage and some signs of old repairs - it is wobbly.
