“The Kendentick" pocket watch Kendal & Dent
An antique “The Kendentick” pocket watch from Kendal & Dent.
Kendal & Dent were a well reputed English maker, one of many who started making their own watches in the 19th century and moved on to import "private label" Swiss watches, such as this one, when the Swiss started to dominate the market in the 20th century.
The watch has a stem-winding movement, probably from Limit, which is working nicely. The movement would have been imported from Switzerland by Dimier Freres & Cie (their initials are on the movement) and it has been labelled “The Kendentick” for onward retail. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch itself measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is gold filled and is in good condition with just a little gentle unevenness to the back.
The acrylic lens is in good condition.
The signed white enamel dial has a couple of hairline cracks between 10 and 11, and a couple of other very faint hairlines which are only visible through a jeweller’s loupe. Overall it has a handsome appearance with the four lines of text, handsomely shaped hands and an outer minute track.
