Ingenious early 19th.c. mahogany swivel top ‘Davenport’ writing desk c.1830 in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster. The Gillows davenport design is notable for having a swivel top which rotates 90 degrees to allow anyone using the desk to sit comfortably with their knees under the writing surface. Featuring a sloped writing surface with a sliding and hinged pen drawer to one side, the top lifts to reveal a fitted interior of three small drawers. Over a bank of four mahogany lined drawers of graduated depth, with original turned button knobs. Superb quality with solid sides, panelled rear, polished on all sides. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned and polished in our workshops.
