A fabulous find and certainly a rare thing this desk-top perpetual calendar was created from period tortoiseshell veneered onto a wooden frame.

The keys to either side are beautifully made with the tips being made from carved circular tortoise shell knobs used to forward the day, date and month (the month roller showing how many days are in that particular month).

Beautifully preserved having been professionally polished, restoring it to it's former glory, with a bright, glossy patina. The box came to us stored in an old wooden cigar box, the previous owner clearly having kept it safe from damage over many years.

A late Victorian / early Edwardian example dating to c.1900.
