Rare Pair of William Birch Oak Settles c1895
A rare pair of tall William Birch of High Wycombe, rush seated oak settles, retailed through Liberty of London c1895. Each with tall turned finials and arched backs over rush backrests and seats. Raised on ring-turned tapering front legs and stretchers. Both seats and backrests have been newly rushed and they still retain a shade of green which disappears over time. The rear side of the backrests have been weaved with careful consideration to ensure the knots have been tied and hidden to make the back view very neat.
Both are in excellent condition, no breaks or repairs.
Each settle is 146cmH x 126cmW x 63cmD Our stock items are carefully selected by myself and I only buy good quality items which may need small repairs, a clean and a polish. I don't buy any items that need major restoration, but any loose joints are re-glued. Occasionally, some items may have small amounts of historic extinct woodworm, never enough to affect the integrity of the item, and is always treated as a matter of course. We try to describe and show our items the best we can, and we use studio lighting which sometimes lightens the colour slightly on some of the furniture. All lamps are rewired and PAT tested. Every item we sell we would have in our home (some of them have been!!) It is impossible to describe every item fully, so please feel free to email or call for more information or any queries you may have. The items will have no major defects but will show signs of normal age related wear and use. I would prefer the items to show its life rather than strip it and re-polish it, as it's only original once!
