Queen Anne Boarded Oak Drop Leaf Dining Table
With a fantastic colour and really very well developed deep natural patina, this English oak gateleg dining table was made by hand in c. 1700.
The table with finely turned spiral turned legs and spiral half stretchers, the timbers original throughout. The gateleg stretchers with attractive channel carved detail and both leaves retaom their original iron hinges.
Seating six easily and shown here with two of a set of six early 18th century Yorkshire back stools (available separately).
The table has huge charm and great age and is very heavy and sturdy. It has an original oak lined drawer at one end which has a nailed up substantial hand hewn single board to base.
A really beautiful and usable table.
Peg jointed throughout, all pegs appear original and with age related knocks and marks and a slight undulation to the bed of the table as shown in our photographs and which is attractive and entirely usual in antique tables of this great age and does not affect use. The drawer with replaced oak runners.
Purchased at Bonhams in Chelsea in the late 1990s for a sum in excess of £1,600.
Dimensions are:
44 inches long, 20 inches wide and 27 inches high.
When open the table is 53 inches wide.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
