Philip’s Educational Terrestrial Globe 1890s
A rare and highly decorative Philip’s Educational Terrestrial Globe, dating from 1890 to 1895. Produced by George Philip & Son Ltd, this antique school globe features classic cartography, with territories and borders reflecting the late Victorian world. This 9-inch terrestrial globe rests on a turned ebonised wood base with a distinctive offset mounting arm, typical of 19th-century design.
Printed with fine lithography, the aged surface retains a warm patina, enhancing its vintage appeal. Ideal for collectors of antique globes, historical maps, or educational antiques, this piece makes a striking statement in a study, library, or interior design setting.
Perfect for those seeking Victorian educational antiques, antique world globes, or British-made cartographic collectables. A beautiful example of late 19th-century craftsmanship from one of the UK’s most respected mapmakers.
There are some indications of old restoration, as well as patches of wear: entirely to be expected on a piece of some 130 years and designed to be used in an education environment. That said, I think it carries its years lightly. The base is a bit curved and can rock and has been stabilised with felt pads. Overall, this item in good condition: it displays really well and in the right environment will be a joy for decades to come.
