This is a pair of antique carved lion bookends. An Oriental, ebonised ironwood book rest with animal figure interest, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.

Ferocious lion forms, with a charming decorative appearance
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good original order
Hand-carved ironwood with an ebonised finish
Prominent teeth to the open mouths create a dynamic, prowling look
Protective leather pads dress the bases and feet of each lion.
