A Highly Decorative Antique Pine Blanket Box or Chest

Dating to the late 19th century, the pine imbued with a scumbled and 'combed' wood effect painted surface, with highly stylised grain and figuring. The top and front panels each further embellished with a simple geometric border picked out in red. The paintwork is all old and the box has seen a lot of use with a completely authentic and well-worn patina.

With ironwork carrying handle to each side, and further iron reinforcing brackets to the front and back edges.

The interior with old paper lining, as shown.

This really is an incredibly attractive box that would look great in any interior - traditional or contemporary. Ideally employed as a coffee table or perhaps a tv stand......alternatively could be used as originally intended as a storage box.

There are lots of pine blanket boxes on the market but few have the charm and visual appeal of this one.

90.5 cms wide x 47 cms deep x 41.5 cms high

Condition -

Excellent worn patina and in antique condition with numerous surface marks, knocks and scratches. Wear and with loss of paint to certain edges and corners. Suspect minor old repair to lower corner rear (as shown in the last photo). Old paper lining to interior worn and marked as shown. A wonderful, aged, chest.
