Mahogany Tall Very Large Open Bookcase Cabinet
A lovely very large bookcase cabinet. We date this bookcase to the late 19th century.
The bookcase comes in three parts: the base section, the top section and separate cornice. The bookcase is very tall. Please be aware of the measurements before purchasing.
The base consists of two cupboards each with a panelled side hinged door and is fitted with drop handles and locks (no key is supplied but a suitable replacement should be easily obtainable). There is a removable mid height shelf in each cupboard. Above this, there are four drawers arranged two over two.
The top section bookcase is divided vertically with five graduated shelved areas at each side and four small drawers at the base.
There is a lovely stepped cornice with dentil moulding and it has an ornately carved top.
The bookcase has an overall height of 103.5" (263cm), a table top height of 33” (84cm), a cornice width of 62" (158cm), a base width of 61” (155cm) and a base depth of 21" (53cm).
The shelves have a depth of 9.5” (24cm).
This lovely bookcase remains in good condition with surface markings commensurate with age and usage. The bookcase is missing its leather trim on the underside of shelves. There is a small chip to the outer right hand side of the cornice and a sliver of wood missing from the bottom of the top section on the outer right hand side. There is an old repair to the bottom front right hand side and some minor wear to some of the edges. The bookcase has some slight mellowing to the finish.
This remains a very stylish and elegant bookcase which will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
