Circa 1910, unusual mahogany monk's bench/hall bench. The 3 panelled back has egg and dart beading at the top, and at the sides protrude 2 shaped and curved arms held in place by turned balustrades. The seat is hinged and opens to reveal an uninterrupted interior. There is also a squab cushion for the seat. At the front and sides are fielded panels with a beaded frame and beneath this there are various mouldings. The whole piece stands on block feet at the back and slightly spread feet at the front. The bench has good colour and patination and is very sturdy with nice wear on the end of the arms.
