Very impressive late 16th.c. style Gothic carved oak chest or coffer c.1900. Over five feet long and sturdy enough to use as a box seat with storage, ideal for a hallway perhaps. Single piece oak boards to the top, front and sides. The top lifting on handmade iron strap hinges, with useful storage space inside. Superb front carved with a dense Gothic tracery design and with an iron lockplate. Note the exposed interlocking joints at sides of the front and the handmade iron nails. Raised on long sledge feet with three pointed arches to the bottom edges. Some old marks to the top, otherwise very good colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
