Late Victorian adjustable lectern/side table. The unusual piece has an oak section at the top for books which is held in position by a brass mechanism which has a ratchet underneath and is adjustable. This is connected by a long arm which goes into a central column, which has a cast brass bulbous top and below this is a central circular solid oak disc, which again has a brass holding knob and is adjustable in height. The brass column runs all the way to floor and is encased in a cast iron elaborate base with four feet in the form of animal feet. Classic example of Victorian ingenuity. Colour and condition is excellent.
