A beautiful and extremely practical oak chest of drawers on bracket feet, which hides a secret: it comes apart into two pieces, ideal for a cottage with a tricky staircase! It is the lightest chest of drawers I have ever carried, the top being no more than 10 mm thick and the side panels, half that thickness. All the weight is in the drawers, which have oak bottoms and cedar sides and backs. The handles are not original, but are absolutely period-perfect and secured by brass straps, as were the originals. The single D moulding on the front around the drawers dates the piece firmly to c.1700. 43 3/8" wide, 41 1/4 high and 21 3/4" deep.
