Large French amboyna triple wardrobe armoire
This is a very opulent large French armoire/wardrobe. It dates to around 1880 and is supreme quality. The wardrobe is made in the exotic wood amboyna so favoured by French cabinet makers. The wardrobe is inlaid with satin wood banding and has two floral inlaid cartouches to each door. The wardrobe has a thick bevelled plate glass central door. The mirror is in very good condition. There are two amboyna columns either side of the door with gilt ormolu capitals and bases.
The wardrobe has three doors all opening on to a space behind which there is a full length hat shelf, full length hanging rail and full length lower shelf with shoe space below. There is a pretty inlaid drawer in the bottom as well. The wardrobe will hold a lot of hanging clothes.
The wardrobe is in good condition. No damage. French wardrobes flat pack and slot together. Originally the wardrobe was held together with four long screws. I have replaced these with big bolts. The wardrobe is solid when constructed. You will need to raise the base on its legs when bolting the two side panels on but the wardrobe can stand without the slot in legs on its plinth base is you do not have the height in your room.
The central door is on two pins - up and down. The lower has been replaced. The door fits well and is solid when in position.
This is a beautiful large wardrobe. If you have a large bedroom then it really can be a statement piece. The wardrobe completely flat backs and takes two people twenty minutes to rebuild.
The wardrobe is 69 inches wide and 24 inches deep. It is 94 inches high with its feet and 87 inches high without.
