Lancashire Watch Co silver pocket watch, 1896
An antique silver pocket watch from the Lancashire Watch Company.
The company was established in 1889 and was intended to be a rival for the big American and Swiss watch manufacturers but unfortunately it failed and the company was closed in 1910.
This particular watch has a key-winding movement which is working nicely and keeping good time to within around five minutes over 24 hours. The end has come off the regulator lever but can still easily be used. A winding key is included. The movement is protected by an inner fitted cover.
The watch itself measures 55mm diameter excluding the stem and the loop, so slightly bigger than the standard 50mm pocket watches. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the case backs for Chester 1896 together with a maker’s mark of TPH for Thomas Hewitt of the Lancashire Watch Company. The case is in good condition… the back would have had engine turned detail but most of this has worn off over the years.
The watch glass has minor marking but is very acceptable.
The signed white enamel dial has a few faint hairlines.
