Gold pair cases, repousse - John Welldon, 1728

A fine early London verge, in good gold repousse pair cases, with a later solid gold dial.
MOVEMENT Very fine gilt verge movement, with beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock and plate, and blued screws. Signed and numbered (923). All in good original condition and running well.
DIAL Gold dial in excellent condition with no rubbing or scratches. Matching gold hands. Both dial and hands are later replacements, probably added around 1800.
INNER CASE London hallmarks for 22ct gold, 1728 and the movement number 923. There are a few light bruises on the back but in overall good condition. The pendant and bow are replacements, probably added at the same time as the dial. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. Good high dome bull's eye crystal with no damage.
OUTER CASE A fine repousse case with wonderful detail. 22ct gold with no hallmarks. The catch and hinge are good and the case snaps shut nicely. There is a little wear to the high points of the repousse work, resulting in a tiny hole to the head of the left hand figure. No repairs or other damage.
The outer case contains a fascinating old watchpaper which is hand cut and painted. In the centre is the full Lord's Prayer, beautifully hand written and dated “Anno Domini 1826”.
There is a John Weldon listed in London between 1730 and 1734. The total weight of this watch is 98 gms.
Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
