PRE CHRISTMAS SALE ...
10 PERCENT OFF MARKED PRICE UNTIL 24th DECEMBER

This is an exceptional Georgian glazed walnut Bureau Bookcase.

It dates to the early years of the 18th century - 1710 to 1720, and is of notable small size, under 3 feet wide.
The front is veneered in finely figured burr walnut over straight grain English oak, with borders of cross grained walnut banding to the fall and drawer fronts.

The sides of both the bureau and the bookcase are also veneered in figured walnut and edged front and back with cross grained borders.

The Bookcase.
Pepsyan Glazing.
Original 18th C glass - (some scratching)
The glazing bars are faced with 'D' shaped mouldings of cross cut walnut sections, as are the 2 shelves and the 2 candlestick shelf slides.
The 2 oak shelves are removable and have adjustable positions.

The Bureau...
has a stepped and welled interior with a central door and document shelves. Veneered throughout in figured walnut, there is no sign that this ever had drawers.
Unusually, the inset well cover slides back to access the internal space of the top drawer.(This has always been a full drawer, not a dummy fronted well space)
The writing surface is of quality tan leather. A later replacement.

The four drawers have their original oak linings and they are framed with half round mouldings to the edge of the case of cross cut walnut as per the bookcase.

The swan neck handles have been in situ for a very long time, they are old replacements.

There are 3 keys - for the locks to the bookcase, the fall, and the inside cupboard.

This bureau bookcase has been very carefully and sympathetically restored to its current excellent condition.
