Georgian Cherry & Elm Circular Tilt-top Table

This is a fabulous Provincial Georgian circular tilt-top table on a pedestal base with three cabriole legs, circa 1760. The top is made from 4 planks of cherry which have faded to a straw colour due to sunlight and, we presume given its probable hard, utilitarian life, from regular washing down. The top is gently warped, and its character is further enhanced by the tracks of ancient wood worm.
The turned column and legs are in untouched original condition with a wonderful patina. The column has a reddish colour and is also made of cherry. The legs have a browner colour with a stronger grain and are made from elm. The base also bears evidence of old woodworm. Though made from a relatively rare combination of native hardwoods we have acquired a second table similarly with cherry top and pedestal and elm legs.
This characterful table would make a treasured occasional table or a supper table.
Dimensions: Height 27 in
Diameter 30 1/4 in x 31 3/4 in (77 x 81 cm)
Condition: Overall, the table is in good condition with no observable repairs with the one exception of the bowtie shaped joints on the underside of the top. We presume these are a later addition to close any gaps in the planks due to shrinkage. Though the top is gently warped, and old wood worm holes can be observed throughout top and base, nevertheless, the table is robust and ready for a further two hundred and fifty years of life. The table has been treated for woodworm to provide peace of mind and gently cleaned and waxed in our workshop.
Delivery: The table can be delivered to anywhere on mainland England and most of Wales for £50 by our trusted delivery man.
