Description:
Here is a fine quality George III oak low dresser base, circa 1780, with a stunning mellow original colour, in good condition. The style of dresser originates from the counties of either Shropshire or Staffordshire. The design is typical of this area and it was probably made for a farmhouse or old manor. The dresser measures 6ft 3” wide and boasts a stunning original patination. It is of a quality craftsmanship it comprises a two plank oak top, which would have been taken from a large oak tree. The top features an elegant reverse moulding to the underside and an ovolo moulding to the two-plank top. Lovely oak medullary rays are prominent in the oak on the front of the dresser. The dresser houses three large moulded drawers, decorated with the original key escutcheons, original brass swan neck handles and original brass back plates. The drawers feature dummy locks. The drawers never housed working locks. The outsides of the drawers just give this impression, with the brass key escutcheons present. This is commonly seen on antique furniture. The original owner would have wanted to portray a piece of antique furniture possibly more decorative and functional that what it was (please note, this is all original). The drawer linings and bottoms are oak lined and constructed with hand-dovetailed joints. The dresser is raised on simple square legs to the rear and elegant cabriole legs to the front. It features the original single plank oak backboard to the rear and the frame has been constructed in the traditional peg and joined construction method.
The dresser features a superb mellow golden oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received (it cannot be recreated by re-polishing).
The dresser would look superb in any hallway, kitchen or dining room. This item would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don't miss out your chance to own a lovely piece of antique furniture.

This dresser is in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the top and leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The drawers feature their original key escutcheons original brass swan neck handles and original brass back plates. The back of the drawer linings have been restored / replaced at some point in the past. The tips of the rear legs show some sign of wear and historical woodworm (the legs have been thoroughly treated). However, this is not surprising, given that this dresser is over 250 years old and been standing on a stone floor for all that time! The back also features its original single plank oak backboard. As the dresser boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow gold oak colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. The dresser is well constructed, solid in joint with no loose movements and is ready to be used.
