George III Satinwood étagère
No 11114
George III satinwood étagère, the six rectangular tiers with fine line inlaid decoration and decorated lattice band to the frieze, the whole raised on turned legs.
Circa 1790
Price: £2,650-00p.
Height: 53”, 134.5 cms / Width: 16.25”, 41.5 cms / Depth: 14.25”, 36 cms.
This George III satinwood étagère dating from the end of the 18th century conforms to what we always refer to as the Sheraton Period as it is based on the designs made popular by Thomas Sheraton. Thomas Sheraton (1751 – 22 October 1806) was a furniture designer, one of the “big three” English furniture makers of the 18th century, along with Thomas Chippendale and George Hepplewhite. Sheraton gave his name to a style of furniture characterized by a feminine refinement of late Georgian styles and became the most powerful source of inspiration behind the furniture of the late 18th century.
Note: This is one of three Satinwood Pieces which we have been lucky enough to have secured from a single collection which Harvey’s helped to assemble for a client some 40 years ago. At the time we had premises at No. 5 Old Bond Street in the heart of London’s Mayfair and halfway between Sotheby’s and Christie’s.
