Gents Omega Seamaster wrist watch, 1958

The watch has an automatic movement, the calibre number is not visible but we believe it to be a 501 which was in production from 1955 until 1960. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 16,026,165 dates it back to 1958.
The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold capped which means a generous layer of 14k gold has been applied to the front and sides of the case and the bezel is solid 14k gold. It was said that the gold capping was so thick that it could hold its shape when not fitted to the case and apparently the salesman used to carry a sample of just the gold capping to demonstrate how strong it was. The case is in good condition, just the odd minor mark, but overall very nice for a 1950s piece.
The stainless steel case back, signed Seamaster, also states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water and moisture. The inside of the back has the Omega triangular logo together with the case reference 2846 7 SC which is correct for the 501 movement.
The winding crown is a later plain replacement.
The lens is in good condition.
The signed dial has been professionally re-finished at some stage. Dauphine shaped hands and a seconds sweep.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
