Gents Omega Seamaster Calendar wrist watch, 1959.

The watch has a 20 jewel automatic movement, calibre 503, which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed with the Omega name. The 503 was in production from 1955 until 1960, the serial number on this movement, 16,967,130, dates it back to 1959.

The watch measures 34mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold capped which means a generous layer of 14k gold has been applied to the front and sides of the case and the bezel is solid 14k gold. It was said that the gold capping was so thick that it could hold its shape when not fitted to the case and apparently the salesman used to carry a sample of just the gold capping to demonstrate how strong it was. The gold capping is in good condition with just very light surface marks, nothing serious at all.

The stainless steel case back has the Seamaster logo to the outside and the Omega logo to the inside, along with the case reference 2849-4 SC which is correct for the calibre 503 movement. The edge of the case back has the initials NDA.

Later signed Omega winding crown.

The lens has light scratches which are visible through a magnifying loupe, not obvious to the naked eye.

The signed dial is in its original finish with original hands, seconds sweep and an early quickset date (initially set by moving the hands repeatedly backwards and forwards between half past midnight and 11pm). Again, if viewed through a magnifying loupe, there is marking across the dial, almost like faint scratching.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
