Gents boxed 14ct gold Hamilton Reardon “CLD” watch
A gents boxed 14ct gold Hamilton Reardon “CLD” wrist watch.
In 1948 Hamilton introduced the first of several new watch models in the "CLD" line. CLD phonetically spells out "sealed" and the CLD models featured a series of gaskets that brought environmental protection of a watch to a whole new level. While it was not marketed as being waterproof, the case was intended to protect the movement against moisture and dirt.
This particular watch is the Reardon model, first introduced in 1953 and in fact only in production for two years.
The watch has a hand-winding movement, calibre 748, which is working nicely.
The watch itself measures 32mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is 14ct gold and is marked as such on the back of the watch, together with the case maker's mark S&W for Schwab & Wuischpard, the company manufactured many cases for Hamilton.
The case back is also marked with the patent number 2609655 which relates to a 1952 patent. The inventor is listed as Henri Edmond Vermot while the applicant was Hamilton Watch Company. The patent related to hermetically sealed cases.
The case is in good condition and the shaped lugs are a particularly charming feature.
The lens is in good condition.
The signed dial is in good condition with 18ct gold markers, dauphine shaped hands, centre seconds and outer minute markers.
A later leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a Hamilton presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
