Gents 9 carat gold Longines wrist watch, 1961
A gents 9 carat gold Longines wrist watch, 1961.
The watch has an automatic movement, calibre 291, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Longines name and the serial number 11,630,699 which dates it back to 1961.
The watch itself measures 34.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is 9 carat gold and there are hallmarks inside the case back for London 1960 which ties in nicely with the date of the movement. The inner case back is also signed with the Longines logo, B&Co for Baume, the Longines agents in the UK, and it has the case maker’s Poinçon de Maître mark for Jacques Beiner / Roger Parel SA of St Imier, Switzerland. The case has minor surface marks, all very acceptable for its age. The winding crown is a later replacement.
The lens is in good condition.
The signed has a little marking but nothing too serious. The date display is, rather unusually, at the 12 o'clock position.
A new leather strap has been fitted but we have retained the buckle with the Longines logo.
