A large early 18th Century and later carved Lime wood Console table from the Louis XIV period, Gilded and painted. The painted Faux marble top above a shaped Silver gilt cross carved frieze inset with floral design and with gilded Fleur de Lys motifs. The central decorative carved gilt wood decoration with a gilded carved relief portrait image of Louis XIV. Below, four elaborately carved legs with gilded carved scrolls and shell motifs, the two central legs linked with a shaped carved stretcher with gilded detail.

The Console has been braced up with later timber and the Faux marble is later. Originally the table would in all likelihood have been 100% gilded and the current decoration dates from a later period. Stylistically the table is typically Louis XIV, the decorative details are all carved into the base timber of solid lime wood are are not applied wood or Gesso mouldings. In addition, it is also evident that originally this table would have been deeper with an additional four legs across the back allowing it to stand alone. In this configuration the table is typically Louis XIV in style.

Excellent condition with various minor marks, scratches etc consistent with age and use. The later grey paint and gilding is in worn condition. The table joints are robust, there being no movement. two small carved scrolls on the legs have been knocked off and are missing.
