Fine Edwardian mahogany triple compactum wardrobe
his is such a good quality compactum triple wardrobe. It is Edwardian and dates to around 1910.
I love this wardrobe. You see just why the Edwardian style replaced the heavy ornate Victorian style that preceded it. This wardrobe is opulent and smart and very sophisticated. It would have been considered very 'modern'in its looks to the Edwardian gentleman who first purchased it.
The wardrobe is in deep rich mahogany. It is inlaid with boxwood stringing with flower motifs to the corners of the door panels. The cornice is inlaid also. It has a clean bevelled edge plate glass mirrored door and the wardrobe stands on a plinth base.
Inside, the wardrobe is constructed in solid oak. The interior is very well made with handing sections either side with storage space above. The central section has 'press' sliding shelves and a suite of graduated oak drawers beneath.
The wardrobe is very clean for the period. The interior is in very good condition.
Compactum triple wardrobes may appear large but actually they take up less space than a double wardrobe and chest of drawers together. They are very imposing but also very usable.
The wardrobe is in good condition. The mirror is original but very clean. The mahogany is rich. Minor warp to bottom of one door. Minor piece of edging off bottom of central door.
This wardrobe is all about opulence and quality. It will look wonderful in a bedroom furnished in antiques.
The wardrobe splits for moving. The cornice comes off, as does the base. The central door is on pins top and bottom and can be removed. The three sections of the interior of the wardrobe separate. It is very manageable.
The wardrobe is 74 inches wide and 83 inches high and 22 inches deep.
