We are delighted to offer for sale this sublime antique Edwardian circa 1910-1920 Flamed Mahogany twin pedestal desk with green leather writing surface from Princess Diana Spencer’s London family home Spencer House

I have various pieces from the last Spencer house sale, which is still owned by Lady Diana Spencer’s family, the history of the items is that Lord Rothschild in the 1980’s leased the property, at that time the house was restored, the pieces furnished the offices, meeting rooms and the newly restored State rooms. Included with each listing is a picture of the piece in situs
Naturally this is a once in a lifetime chance to purchase this desk, it will never come up for sale again, the Spencer family no longer sell their family heirlooms. The sale includes one original picture of the desk in situs at the Spencer house in The main office
This would have been in the house from way before Princess Diana’s birth right up to 2022, the good lady as we know started dating Prince Charles around the age of 16 years old so chances are the princess could have sat or even worked at this very desk
Condition wise we have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, there will be some age and use related patina marks here and there, mostly its in fine order. There are some marks on the outside panel of the knee hole space, this is from a visitors chair being placed up against it, I can have this professionally restored should the new owner wish for the cost price, it is honest patina which is why I've left it in place

The house contains a small but significant collection of Old Master paintings and 18th-century English furniture on long-term loan from the V&A and Temple Newsham, including original pieces designed by the architects and displayed in their 18th-century locations. Also on loan is an important group of five major historical paintings by Benjamin West from the Royal Collection Trust and important paintings and works from private and public collections including Tate, the Royal Academy, Royal Pavilion and Museums (Brighton and Hove) and the National Trust
