Edwardian Silver Trinket Box, W.G. Keight, 1907
This is an elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Trinket Box. The box is sarcophagus shaped with a flat rectangular base. The hinged lid has a gadrooned rim and what appears to be a monogram of two back to back letter S, although it could just be a decorative motif. The interior of the box is gilded.
The box works equally well for storing small items of antique jewellery, for sewing accessories or for small stationery items on a desk.
The trinket box was made in Birmingham by W.G. Keight & Co and dates to 1907. W.G. Keight registered his first mark at the Birmingham assay office in 1883. Operating from premises in Spencer Street the firm produced a wide range of silverware from small vesta cases and card cases up to large punch bowls and tea services. They ceased trading somewhere around 1910.
Condition is good, with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the lid plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The box measures 10cm / 3.9ins by 4.5cm / 1.8ins and stands 2.8cm / 1.1ins high. It weighs in at a very respectable 69.0g / 2.4oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the front of the box just below the rim, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter h for 1907 and the W.G.K makers' mark for W.G. Keight & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the box.
