Edwardian Silver & Green Enamel Buckle, 1909
This is a top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver and green Guilloche Enamel belt buckle. It was made in Birmingham in 1909 by Levi & Salaman of Newhall Street. Phineas Harris Levi and Joseph Wolff Salaman formed their partnership in 1870 and carried on in business until they were taken over by Barker Bros in 1921. They made a large range of high end silver pieces including many personal items such as this buckle.
The belt buckle is in excellent condition with no dings or dents in the silver and no damage to the vivid green enamel. It is completely usable as a buckle today or would make a fine addition to any collection.
The buckle is 5.7cm long by 3.8cm wide and weighs in at 16.5g.
The hallmarks on the bar, which are well struck and clear to read, are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "k" for 1909 and the L&S makers' mark for Levi & Salaman. There is also a separate lion passant Sterling Silver mark on one of the prongs.
