Edwardian Oak Roll Top Desk
"This is a solid oak roll top desk of the ""S"" shape and given the writing on the back of the bottom drawer it is most likely of American origins and was Imported in 1906. The colour is a golden oak and as with most superior roll top desks all the panelling is fielded(bevelled edged) even at the back, which gives you the ability to use it off the wall. Although difficult to understand why, but the brushing slides are exactly the same size and age but of a slightly different construction. The whole piece is in great condition with lock and key to the shutter, which when closed locks all the drawers. Cleaned and waxed ready for work.
The desk has inside a letter addressed to a Mr Freeston who owned a rabbit farm in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire which we suspect the desk has resided in for a time. Melton Mowbray still has rabbit farms to this day and is known as ""The Rural Capital of Food"", home of the Melton Mowbray pork pie also one of the five homes of Stilton cheese. The letter is a little difficult to read for those not used to old cursive writing but is a nice piece of history to go with the desk."
