This is a handsome English carved oak three panel coffer dating from the early 18th century, circa 1720. The chest has a good colour and nice patination to the solid oak. This is traditionally constructed with peg dowelling and has its original ring & hoop hand forged hinges and its original candlebox to the right hand side inside. The chest is in good sound order, with a couple of historic splits to the panelled top and an antique hand forged metal bracket that looks to have been fitted in the early 19th century that reinforces the back left hand corner. These are just part of the history of the piece and are quite stable and sound.The coffer is raised on style feet and the front panels are beautifully carved with traditional period designs.
The coffer measures 26"high, 50"wide and 21"deep.
