Mid 18th Century Dutch East Indies VOC Trunk, hardwood with brass straps & massive handles.
Batavia, circa 1750

VOC = Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie, founded in 1602, dissolved 1798 - by far the most successful of the East Indies companies - this comparatively small size issued to middle ranking officers (larger for seniors) - sophisticated embossed & engraved lock plate with central heart motif
