This is a fantastic early 18th century Indian chest which oozes character and charm throughout the piece. The chest has a wonderful deep rich colour due to the age of the hardwood and is beautifully decorated with extensive pierced brass work and brass and copper studs of various sizes. The Sun mask discs are a true delight with characterful faces embossed and centrally the figure of Shiva sits meditating in the Lotus position. The timber of the chest is in good order and quite sound and has its original hand forged metal hinges in good working order. The chest is raised on its original stile feet.
A most charming early example in very good original order dating from around 1700.
The chest measures 82 cms wide 36 cms deep by 46 cms high.
