Campaign Desk

A Victorian mahogany folding campaign desk. According to Nicholas Brawer in his book entitled ‘British Campaign Furniture – Elegance Under Canvas (1740 – 1914', firms such as Albert Baker of New Bond Street in London made desks of a similar design. Leather lined with compartments for inkwells, pens and paper, British Officers would take these into battle throughout the 19th century. See Page 165 of Brawer's book for a similar example. Item No. 0252.
