Cadbury Chocolate Display Cabinet
This is an amazing original Cadbury’s display cabinet made in England and with etched glass and sliding doors. It is a bit special and all original, dating to around 1900. It has a mahogany case with solid top - this shows some marks on the photographs but is at my restorers now and will be properly French polished as it was originally. The glass is all original and in great order. The Cadbury’s advertising wording is etched and is lovely and clear. The back has the original sliding doors which work well and it has white opaque glass on the base. This has a star crack in it, it is rare to find one without tbh, they were used in a working environment daily. It would be simple to have a piece of glass cut to pop on top of this if required but it would be a shame to completely replace the original glass. The cabinet has a small makers plaque on the back at the base, where the back doors meet. I was told this was found in the cellar of a newsagents shop in Robin Hoods Bay, North Yorkshire. It is a great piece and the bigger of the two normal sizes for these.
The cabinet is in good condition, the wood is all good and it stands well with no looseness or wobbles. The glass is good, no chips or cracks. The lettering is clear. The top has some marks but is being French polished as we speak so will be good when it leaves me. The remaining wood is good. The doors work as they should and the shelf supports are all present and correct. As noted earlier, the base glass has a star crack, this is smooth to touch so not a danger and doesn’t affect use but could be covered with a new piece cut to fit and sat on top of the original, or not, as you choose. It’s a tidy piece and they are getting more difficult to find. I have been doing this over 30 years and although I do see them occasionally this is only the second I have owned.
The cabinet measures 84cm wide x 46cm deep x 74 tall
