C19th Continental Tall Six-Drawer Chest of Drawers
This lovely chest of drawers looks to date from the second half of the nineteenth century. It has lovely mahogany, walnut and satinwood inlays over a wooden carcass. The chest is very much in the empire style and we believe it to be of continental origins. It has canted corners ar the front and six graduated drawers, all of which retain their original ring handles, escutcheons and locks. Two more modern keys are present which work all the locks. The chest is supported on tapering legs with brass feet.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. The drawers sit slightly proud of the carcass due to some minor wood shrinkage. There is some wood shrinkage splittling to the sides. There are some signs of old repair and patching to the veneers, mainly to the top. There is some damage and minor loss to some of the backplatesof the ring handles. The bottoom escutcheon is matching but is of slightly different construction and so may be a replacement. One of the drawer runners on the bottom drawer is missing, but it is still usuable.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Overall - 154cm high, 82.5cm wide, 48.5cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
