This is an original vintage butcher’s block, well made and well used in its time. The block is made of maple and it stands on a well made pine stand. It is a lovely item, nice and chunky with a rich colour to the block and stand. The block has been used and the top undulates somewhat, as is the nature of these, this can be seen in the photos. The block is thick and heavy, it is a two person lift and is a separate piece to the stand. It sits on top of the stand and is held in place by its weight. This is fine in an adult home but I personally would secure it to the stand from underneath if you have children. Children are light in weight but can often build up speed which gives them force and this is a heavy item. An angle bracket on each leg attaching the base to the block would stop it moving if hit at force. I have adult grandsons, as toddlers they pushed each other about with some force, I would have secured the top to the base had this been in my house at that time. The stand is square cut pine with chunky legs and apron and a lower shelf. The block and the base have been smoothed and waxed. Both are solid and in good condition. As a block which has seen life the top has some imperfections - over the years butchers have filled gaps with pieces of wood, filler or resin. This gives it character and shows its age. The last two pictures are of the top only, if you enlarge these you can see this for yourself. I would say the block dates to around the 1980s, maybe much earlier as it looks like it’s been stored many years since it lived its original life. The stand is possibly newer, anything from 1980s to the 2000s. They would look great in a kitchen or as a side table. It is a lovely item.

The butchers block measures 153cm long x 63cm deep. It stands at 80cm tall at the ends with a dip in the center, making it 76cm tall at that point. The base is 66cm tall without the top.
