Bickers & Co. Part-Glazed Mahogany Bookcase
This attractive bookcase is of good quality and dates from around the 1930s, although it is older in style. It was made by Bickers & Co. Cabinet Makers of Dewbury and retains its maker's plaque on the back. The bookcase is made from mostly solid mahogany. It cosists of three separate lockable sections, all with three adustable wooden shelves. The central cupboard is astral-glazed with gothic arch decoration. The cupboards on either side have wooden doors. There is carved geometric decoartion around the top edge of the cabinet. It is supported on cabriole legs at the front and shaped bracket feet at the back. It retains three working keys.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some light scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some minor denting to the top and around the edges. The left-hand wooden cupboard door is a little warped but still closes and latches. This door has a loose area of beading on the inside. The keys are a little bent.
