Arts & Crafts Silver Tray, William Comyns, 1907
Here we have a stunning, top quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Drinks Tray in the Arts & Crafts style. The tray is oblong in shape with a scalloped rim and a planished base in the centre of which is a blank circular cartouche.
The tray was made in London by William Comyns & Sons and dates to 1907. William Comyns founded his firm in 1859, later being joined by his sons. They produced silverware of the highest quality, often in striking designs. The company passed through several generations of the Comyns family and finally ceased trading in the early 1990s.
Condition is very good, with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
As you would expect from William Comyns & Sons, the tray is a well made item in a good gauge of silver. It measures 30.5cm / 12ins long by 20cm / 7.9ins wide and the rim is 1.3cm / 0.5ins high. It weighs in at a very substantial 363.8g / 12.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the outside of the rim, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter m for 1907 and the W.C makers' mark for William Comyns & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the tray.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
