This is an antique writing desk. A French, flame mahogany and cedar bonheur du jour, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1860.

Of wonderful proportion and rich in colour
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order

Ornate forms to the back stand with inset upper shelf
Generously sized lower shelf between the serpentine sides
Opening outwards, the writing slope presents a crimson skiver
A suite of pen trays and cubbies sit behind the opening upper skiver compartment

Wide drawer to lower fascia with circular wooden pulls
The main drawer and skiver replete with inset brass-lined locks — matched key present
The right hand side contains a second, pull-out drawer
Raised upon a quartet of gently tapering turned legs
