Antique Waltham half hunter pocket watch and chain
Antique Waltham half hunter pocket watch and chain.
The watch has a stem-winding movement, 15-jewel grade 620, which is working nicely. The nicely patterned movement is fully signed and the serial number 17213885 dates it back to 1908. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold filled Fortune model from the American Watch Case Company of Canada. It is has the odd little mark and two shallow indentations to the back but overall good for such an early piece. The front has blued enamel filled Roman numerals surrounding a central lens.
We suspect that the case and movement did not start off life together... we see this sometimes where it is more economically viable to replace the whole movement, perhaps when a movement has sustained water damage.
The winding crown pushes in to release the front cover. Inside there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.
The dial is signed with the Waltham name together with the name of the original retailer of the watch, William Owen of Leeds. The dial has blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read even when the front cover is closed. There is a short hairline by number 4 but otherwise the dial is in good condition.
The watch comes with a single chain, 25cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.
The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box.
