Antique silver Waltham P S Bartlett pocket watch and chain.
The watch has a high grade stem-winding movement, P S Bartlett grade, which is working nicely. The patterned movement has gold jewel settings and a gold starwheel regulator. It is fully signed and the serial number 23,060,918 dates it back to around 1919. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business.
The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and is hallmarked for Birmingham 1924, with a case maker's mark for Aaron Dennison, the Dennison Watch Case Company made the majority of cases for Waltham UK.
There is a small discrepancy between the movement date and hallmark but everything suggests the components are original to each other.
The case is in good condition, just a little unevenness to the back but it is gentle.
The watch glass has small marks but nothing too detrimental.
The signed dial is in lovely condition and has blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track.
The watch comes with a hallmarked silver single chain, 32cm long including the T-bar and the fob. Also attached is a shorter chain with a much later 1961 fob.
The watch and chain will be sent in a new presentation box. ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
