Antique Silver Plated Kettle on Stand - 1900
Pretty as a picture, this is a simply charming small silver plated tea kettle on stand which would have been used to keep extra hot water warm to top-up the tea pot.
The set comprises the kettle with beautiful engraved decoration incorporating a shield shaped cartouche to both front and back, one with a single monogram letter "h" and the other with the date, 16th January 1900, making this a late Victorian example: The kettle is topped with a stunning lid with a floral finial and delightful engraved decoration the stand, which has four very grand legs and houses the spirit burner which would have been filled with fuel and the wick lit to keep the kettle warm. The cradle which holds the kettle is beautifully pierced or reticulated mounted with handles each side in turned wood.
The underside of the kettle is where the full hallmark can be found for the well renowned Sheffield silversmith, Martin Hall and Co. The firm participated to the 1851 Great Exhibition, the International Exhibition (1862), the Sydney Exhibition (1879), the Melboune Exhibition (1881) and the 1915 British Industries Fair.
Excellent condition the maximum width of the piece from spout to handle of the cradle is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and the piece stands 8 1/2" tall to top of turned wooden handle of the kettle.
