Antique Maple & Co Mahogany Ships Washstand
A lovely ship's washstand. We date this washstand to the mid 19th century.
The inside of the door has the Maple & Co. Ltd Stamp
The washstand sits on a slightly protruding plain plinth base.
The washstand has a rear hinged top that lifts to reveal the basin, the basin has brass plug fittings.
There is a cupboard below with a hinged door fitted with a wooden button handle. Internally there is a removable mid height wooden shelf.
There is a stamp JJM on the side of the cabinet, probably the cabinet maker or who it was made for at the time.
The washstand has an overall height of 36" (92cm), a width of 20.5" (52cm) and a depth of 21" (53cm).
This lovely ship's washstand remains in good solid condition with only minor surface markings commensurate with age and usage, including an indented score line down the front of the cabinet and some usage marks to the top surface. The door sits a bit proud at the top and there are some chips around the base.
This remains a very stylish and elegant ship’s washstand. It will continue to provide good service for many years to come.
